The 'Montessori in Kenya' Tour during May 2026 was an exceptional tour organised by Raw Africa Eco-Tours, in collaboration with Roelie Hartwig of Montessori Tours and Travel.
We were a super small group allowing us to ride one car the whole trip.Our driver and guide was Jaros who excelled as both. Jaros was also informative, caring and patient, full of interest to exchange views and thoughts. We could not have asked for a better guide.
Kenya exceeded all expectations (although I had none) with its stunning scenery and kind people.

Exploring the world with Montessori Tours and Travel (MT&T) is a must for anyone, but especially those interested in Maria Montessori’s life and work. These tour packages have been, by far, the best and most unique travel experiences. Roelie Hartwig’s attention to detail makes each trip run smoothly. Her ability to put together meaningful itineraries has made each experience uniquely fabulous, including additional expertise from local tour guides. Everything from visiting where Montessori was born, to where she passed away, and so many places in between, including the Casa de Bambini in San Lorenzo Rome, was truly special.
I was fortunate to have also experienced India with MT&T. I have to say this was the most life changing experience. Being able to see where Montessori and Mario lived in the Hill Station of Kodaikanal brought a new level of understanding to Cosmic Education. Because of my travels with MT&T, I have been able to connect with and build a community of fellow Montessorians around the globe. MT&T has also provided the unique opportunity to observe children working in their environments around the world. I have found these experiences to be profoundly moving and they have given me a greater sense of hope for peace and education.

It is not too much to say that my life was changed by the '2022 Montessori's Italy' tour. Our week together was a look at the political and personal influences that formed Maria Montessori and her work. The tour was intelligently planned, offering intimate glimpses of Dr. Montessori in her world so that our appreciation in our time deepened.

In the spirit of Montessori Roelie offered a prepared ‘touring’ environment with many sensational daily offerings such as exploring the food, music and the vibrant life in the streets of Hanoi, cruising and kayaking on the majestic Halong Bay, lantern making and My Grandma’s Home Cooking class on a family island in Hoi An, wearing traditional hats as we canoed through the canals of the Mekong, and joining in the alluring and frightening chaotic
flow of the motorbikes in Saigon on a Vespa street food tour. Sharing this with fellow Montessorians was so empowering and enlivening as we all
embraced these new experiences with a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm. Interwoven throughout the tour was the opportunity to visit Montessori schools and the AMI training center in Saigon. It was such a gift to share in our collective work with Montessorians in Vietnam and graciously share in the offering of delicious meals of the local cuisine. Oh the food and the people! Roelie did not only plan an awe-inspiring adventure she was responsive to the individual interests of the travellers and the opportunities that arose along the way. She eagerly adjusted the schedule to accommodate. All I can conclude with is where are you taking us next, Roelie? Can’t wait!
