It was with great excitement that a small group of Montessorians departed Perugia, Italy at the end of October 2022, for an historic tour, the 2022 Montessori’s Italy Study Tour.

We commenced this tour in Chiaravalle, Dr Montessori’s birth town. Listening to the stories provided by our local guide and Montessori historian whilst walking the streets that Montessori’s family walked when Maria was a small child, gave us much insight into Montessori’s environments during her early years.

We visited a Montessori school (empty of children due to the long weekend) near Gonzaga, GAM and then the Villa Alessia, where Montessori stayed when she went to visit her friend, Maria Maraini Guerrieri Gonzaga, one of the many noble and influential women Montessori befriended.

We visited the Villa Montesca and the township of Città di Castello before spending 2 full days in Rome, discovering some of Montessori’s Rome. With Karin Slabaugh as our Montessori’s Rome Walking Tour Guide leading us through the streets of Rome.
