Sri Lanka – Saturday 14 September to Tuesday 17 September
Our exciting India 2019 tour actually began in Sri Lanka at the delightful Blue Water Hotel at Wadduwa, outside Colombo. This comfortable beachside hotel tempted us with buffets of local dishes both savoury and sweet, as well as lush green grass, ocean views, peaceful days and rain.
On Sunday, Olof de Weerdt from Nienhuis Asia, met us at the fort at Galle, the best representation of a fortified city built by the Portuguese in South and Southeast Asia.
We toured the Nienhuis factory on Monday, gaining a deeper appreciation of the care and attention given to the creation of Montessori materials. A really interesting experience which I highly recommend for anyone who has worked with, or ordered, Nienhuis materials.
Our next stop was the ‘Good Shepherd Montessori Training Centre’, which is celebrating 75 years of Montessori training this year (2019). It was inspirational meeting Sister Stanislaus and her fellow trainers and to see so many students in the current training programme.
To conclude our short Sri Lankan experience, Chris Willemsen, from Nienhuis in The Netherlands, met us for dinner and presented us with memorabilia celebrating 90 years of Nienhuis.
